Man Gold captures the spicy-sweet DNA of Black XS but oversimplifies the composition with a more straightforward vanilla-amber base instead of the original's complex interplay of tolu balsam and Brazilian rosewood. The opening citrus and cardamom are reasonably faithful, but the clone lacks the sophisticated woodsy depth and praline richness that define the designer's signature character.
Zara's version is sweeter and more linear with a generic musk base, while Black XS offers greater complexity with distinctive woody-resinous undertones and better longevity. The original's sage note is also completely absent in the clone, making it feel less refined.
