âI hate the opening of this. Itâs smells like a smoky and medicinal. The drydown is glorious though! Think vanilla and rose milkshake. I then get a beautiful scent bubble that lasts all day! Unfortunately, it takes nearly an hour for the beautiful drydown to show its face and you are stuck with that awful opening during that time. I donât like suffering through that opening so I decluttered that. I am considering picking up the smaller size though.â
âShalimar LâEssence, by Guerlain, Eau de Parfum, smells like vanilla powder and tonka beans.I could smell a little bit of the animalic and aldehyde notes, of the original Shalimar, in the opening, but in a minute they fade away and you are left with a very simple vanilla fragrance. The tonka beans make the vanilla boozy.I do not wear vanilla, it is not a perfume for me.The scent profile being pretty simple, I think the perfume is overpriced. You can find so many similar scents for one third of the price.â
âLong-time Shalimar fan here. Liked the vanilla special editions before this as well. Compared to Shalimar edt, this is more-or-less the drydown of it. Mostly vanilla, tempered by minimal iris/leatheresque note. Compared to other vanilla editions (Ode la vanilla, or Madagascar), not as rounded and rich, however, the price of those was a different world entirely as well. It's nice, and probably a good introduction to Shalimar. I miss the complexity of the edt though with the bergamote and emphasized leather. Longevity is not as good as the original edt though.â
