Shades Wood captures the woody-oud DNA of Rose Oud reasonably well, with a comparable saffron opening and floral-woody heart. However, the rose accords feel slightly more synthetic and less refined than Kilian's tincture-based rose, and the base leans slightly heavier on cedarwood rather than matching the sophisticated guaiac wood balance of the original.
Armaf's version has slightly shorter longevity and less refined rose character, while the guaiac wood presence is somewhat diluted in favor of cedar. The overall composition is warmer and less nuanced than the original's sophisticated oud-rose interplay.
